Pick an origin, destination, and day. The planner searches active Metrorail corridors and shows realistic journeys, including transfers when a single train cannot take you all the way.
How results are sorted
Options are ordered by departure time. Scroll later results too: a direct train that leaves a bit later is often better than the first multi-transfer option.
Connections & relays
Some hubs allow near-immediate platform changes (including 0-minute relays where trains are held for connecting services). Sparse weekend or holiday timetables may show longer waits; those are flagged as Extended Layover when the wait is very long.
Day selector & disruptions
Use the day control for Weekday / Saturday planning. Public holidays follow the Saturday pattern in the planner. If a corridor is severed, results explain the block or offer a detour when one exists.

The idea for Next Train first sparked in 2023 while I was a student at the University of Pretoria, travelling via Rissik Station and looking for low-cost, affordable transport. Building began in mid-November 2025 with a simple mission: to replace blurry notice photos and crowded station boards with clear, digital accuracy.
What began as a tool for family has grown to help thousands of commuters. While this remains an independent passion project (not an official PRASA tool), it is built with the reliability our community deserves.
